The Bernie knit has a story to tell. Our take on the traditional Guernsey or 'Gansey' knit, it features a mix of traditional details with a Joules twist. Guernsey knits were originally designed for hardworking fishermen. So, we've used a detailed stitch on the cuffs and neck as a nod to twisting ropes and homage to the jumper's origin. Another characteristic of this style is a tight-knit construction which historically created a hardwearing finish to fend off the harsh conditions at sea. Our knitwear designers have used a blend of jersey and purl stitch techniques throughout the body and sleeves to emulate this texture and durability.
